Legendary performance brand Abarth have unveiled an exciting edition to their range: a racy adaption of Fiat’s new-generation 124 Spider.
Displayed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the Abarth 124 Spider sports stand-out styling featuring contrasting two-tone panels, with a matt black bonnet as a nostalgic nod to race cars of yesteryear. It’s topped off with dynamic dark finish alloys and an imposing wrap-around honeycomb grille.
On the performance side, Abarth promise a feisty 6.8 0-62mph time thanks to a boost from 138bhp to 168bhp, which the added addition of an extra 10Nm of torque to make for a total of 250Nm. A limited slip-differential has been employed, while suspension has been finely honed. Bigger Brembo brakes with aluminium callipers are another dynamic addition, with the overall effect topped off by the ultra-sporty sounding Record Monza exhaust system.
To complete their head-turning Geneva line-up, Abarth also unveiled the rally-ready sister to the new 124 Spider, the Abarth 124 Rally. The fierce-looking model arrived in attention-grabbing red and yellow, with a turbo-charged 1.8 litre engine in place of the Spider’s 1.4 litre. That makes for a hearty 296bhp, while hardened suspension, trimmed weight and pushed-back engine all add to the car’s ability to take on the track. Abarth officials promise a motorsport debut for 2017, marking their long-awaited return to rally.
Both the Abarth 124 Spider and the Abarth 124 are available to order across the UK now, with deliveries to be expected later this year. Prices for the Abarth 124 Spider start at £29,565.
