The demand for Crossovers and SUVs is ever-growing and Peugeot are expanding their range to capitalise. The recent motoring boom has seen drivers edge away from larger family saloons and estates and instead move towards the SUV market.
As ever Peugeot are hot on the ever-evolving industry demands and have introduced the 2008 and are set to deliver a new revised version of the 3008 and 5008. The successor to the outgoing model will see Peugeot move away from the traditional MPV and transform it into a large, seven-seat SUV.
The all-new 5008’s design will shift dramatically from its predecessor and in Peugeot’s words the new 5008 will be ‘the first SUV to offer modularity on a part with that of the best people carriers’. In essence the French manufacturer is blending the practicality and versatility of a traditional people carrier and blending it with the style and panache of an SUV.
From the front Peugeot have adopted a broader and more imposing design than the 3008 whilst an imposing shoulder line and rugged lower trimming ensure it delivers the essential SUV styling. At the rear the substantial overhang gives an indication of the sheer amount of space inside.
Once inside the 5008’s spacious cabin the dash boasts Peugeot’s second generation of the i-Cockpit design. There will be a compact, modern steering-wheel, an impressive 8” touchscreen and a 12.3” instrument panel. Peugeot have ensured that the cutting-edge technology installed throughout the stunning SUV is easily controlled through seven stylish chrome buttons on the centre console. To add an extra level of comfort and luxury, optional extras include atmospheric lighting, massage seats as well as in-car fragrances to ensure all your senses are satisfied.
The new 5008 sits an expanded version of the platform seen on the 3008, which is known as the Efficient Modular Platform 2 (EMP2) and combines innovative technology to deliver lighter, safer and more efficient vehicles. This additional size ensures the 5008 can really offer unrivalled practicality. Longer and wider than its predecessor the new platform has allowed Peugeot to still shave off 95kg of excess weight. All this extra length and width means middle-row passengers will have 60mm more knee room and allow for modular seating for increased versatility.
Moving on to the storage figures, with five seats in place the new 5008 can offer a staggering 1,060 litres of luggage space whilst Peugeot have ensured that the front passenger seat folds fully flat so you can transport items up to 3.2m in length.
